14 Nov Bonfire night buffet!
This bonfire night we got together as a family to have a meal and game night together (and even some fireworks after I let my husband go shopping unattended!)
I definitely get my love of cooking from my Mum, who always produces the most amazing food for dinner parties. Whenever we go to my parents, whether it’s for a casual weekday dinner or a more formal sit down meal, I know it’s going to be homemade, wholesome and delicious.
My mum prepared an amazing starter of ‘nibbles’, with lots of delicious bitesize foods to enjoy. There were honey and mustard chipolates, mini egg & bacon or goats cheese & onion tartlets and cheese & spring onion tortillas, as well as plenty of crisps, vegetables & dips and olives.
It was such an amazing selection of starters I could have quite happily eaten more of it and just had that as a meal, however then we had a tasty main of minted lamb shanks, roast potatoes, carrots and broccoli.
A meal like this wouldn’t be complete without a dessert, which was homemade apple cake topped with a stem ginger toffee sauce and custard. My mum shared this apple cake recipe with me recently and it is SO good – really fluffy sponge with chunks of apple. A real seasonal treat.
I didn’t snap any pics of the meal (woops!) but I really wanted to share this with you anyway, as I thought it was worth sharing! IF you’re planning a get together or diner party, why not take a few tips from my mum?
