04 Dec My favourite Afternoon tea spots
I’m really partial to an afternoon tea (if you hadn’t guessed from the nature of my business!) I think it’s a great opportunity to get together with friends and family and treat yourselves to a meal you wouldn’t normally have. I love how every place you go has a different array of treats and ways to display them and how the experience can really differ dependent on where you are. I thought I’d pick out some of my favourite afternoon tea spots to share with you.
Malmaison in Leeds does a great afternoon tea. We went back in April to celebrate my birthday and had a great time. It’s a more modern approach to afternoon tea, there’s no vintage crockery sets and the cake stands are tiered slate, but it’s still a great experience and the food was really tasty. Generous portions and a great range of flavours. They also frequently have discounts on too, but the general price is fairly decent anyway.
Now, I hadn’t heard of Mama Doreen’s in Harrogate until I visited in the Summer during my hen do. The girls had planned an afternoon tea (they know me so well!) and originally were going to book into Betty’s, but then my aunty suggested Mama Doreen’s. I’m so glad she did! It was SO good and a really memorable experience. The cafe is decorated in a quirky, cute way and the amazing afternoon tea is served with vintage crockery and cake stands. What struck me is just how much you get for your money.
The Sunshine Bakery
The Sunshine Bakery in Chapel Allerton is my go-to place for afternoon tea. I’ve been heading here for a few years now with my best friend to celebrate something (or just curb our sweet tooth cravings!) and it is so delicious. My particular highlight is the amazing cream they use in the scones and to top their cupcakes, it’s amazing. They also have an amazing sweet counter where you can top up on your favourite sweet treats to go, if you’d prefer.
Bake My Day
I’ll have to start this with a confession – I haven’t had afternoon tea here yet. However, I visited this hidden gem in Castleford, West Yorkshire, for lunch and it was delicious (I had smoky beans on toast, followed by a chocolate chip scone with jam and cream). Bake My Day do afternoon teas and often have seasonal menus which sound amazing. I’m going to book in for an afternoon tea soon and can’t wait – I feel confident that it will live up to expectation after trying their lunch!
Also, don’t forget that if you would love to enjoy an afternoon tea, but can’t get out and about or want it in the comfort of your own home, this is exactly what our afternoon tea menu entails! A delicious array of homemade treats, presented on beautiful cake stands and served with pretty vintage crockery.
